My friend as a metal lath and was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what I could do to a stock 01 sa50 vari to get more top speed?

Variatin' on a Lathe

Greetings:

Steps to best performance from Stock SA50 Elite variator:

1. Chuck up the Elite vario in the Lathe.
2. Turn it into a lovely ashtray.
3. Sell the ashtray to your old Aunt Gladys.
4. Use the proceeds to purchase a Prodigy from Burnt_Toast, a Keli from DayWOT, or (if aunt Gladys leaves you enough after her Camels kill her...) a Polini.

Seriously, the plate travel is too short on the Stocker. You can't do much to 'em to help.

i have always wondered how much benefit our engines would gain from lightening the flywheel, driveface, variator, and clutch bell. it may not be a huge gain since you wouldn't be able to remove a huge amount of metal, but may gain a little something...
and wheelman is correct, if you want more performance from the vari, replace it and the ramp plate. lightening the vari wont do much, the ramps in the vari will still be the same, so it will still perform the same.

yeah the ramps the rollers roll on or to short.aftermarket ones go farther up so belt ride height will go up on the face.what you can do is take your mag off and lighten that.that will better your throttle responce and also give you a little better topend due to a little higher rpm.shave around the pickup so you will have a high spot inline with the pickup.it will look something like this.
