How can I increase my gas mileage? I only got 34 miles on a tank.
What can I do?

Do a thorough check for leaks. Start with the vacuum shut-off valve and then the float/needle and then the drain screw. You definitely didn't burn that much fuel, it has to be leaking somewhere.
