Spree gearing

I have a spree that is a dedicated pit cruiser. The track speed limit is 10mph. I am wondering if there is any options to gear this down? I don't care if the top end goes down to 20 I just want it to pull harder on the bottom end.

It's a good running unit that behaves like the rest, nothing down low and pulls well above 10mph.

I have thought about seeing if the flywheel can be lightened to rev quicker???

Threads are better with pics so here's one.

Make your spree go slower? This is a first for this forum.

Bigger pully in the rear and a longer belt would help lower your speed.

A smaller rear tire would help some too.

I'm not rying to slow it down. I am willing to sacrafice top end for better bottom end.

I understand what you are trying to do.
If you can reduce the ratio of the pulleys in the case to more that 2:1 you should be good for mad acceleration and have a top speed of about 22mph.

Exactly. Any idea what parts to use?

OH - Here's a current pic of the heap I'm talking about.

I love it
Is that the ignition key in the side panel? that's so cool. 8)

Where did you get a front pocket for a non 1987 spree?

I will do some research to see what parts will fit on the clutch pulley, and get back to you.

It's the fuel shutoff. It came off of a Polaris snowmobile of some sort. My stock petcock didn't shutoff completely so I hit it with a drill to fully open it up and put this on. I think it cost $5 shipped on ebay. This thing is a trailer queen so I didn't want it flooded when I got to the track.

There is no more key,Hold the start button down till it dies. I modified the harness extensively. Three wires go to front now (ground, hot for the low beam, Kill) Two wires go the the rear(ground& hot). Everything else has been removed, signal circuits, gas gauge, oil light, brake lights, everything.

I got the pocket from a guy here. Can't remember who. $30-35 shipped if I recall.

If your Spree is an 86 or 87 then you can swap out some gears from the earlier 84/85 to get a little more low end.

You can prob up the compression by swapping the head if you'd wanna go that route.

It's an 86. I would like to get it done in the clutch or gears. This thing is so reliable I don't want to disturb that.

Sorry, but unless you '86 has the higher gear ratio and you swap to the early ('84-'85) the only other optional gears are for faster, not slower. There is only one clutch and at this time no optional springs except whatever you can fab up. The Spree is a one speed transmission rig and as yet the is no Variator for it. Taz has on in the works, but as yet no available. Smaller tire is your best bet, but do they make anything smaller than 2.50X10?
