Honda Spree and Elite 50 Forums

So I got these 2 Sprees off CL, $50 for the 85 and $150 for the 86. Both red. The 86 had just eaten a piece of its own compression ring, but is otherwise super-clean, so I didnt think 150 was too bad. The 85 has been sitting outside and didnt run, but was complete except for rear plastics, worth the 50 bucks I still think. I got the 85 engine in the 86 frame the next day, and with a new batt. and plug it tried very hard to fire, but would never quite get there. I finally ran a compression test and got a whopping 65 lb. reading! So, Im ordering a piston kit from Taz, and it should be on the road shortly that comes in the mail. In the mean time, Im doing some mild porting and some minor cosmetic work. I got 2 mufflers obviously, the 86 looks super nice, but weighs alot more than the 85, so I figure this means it has alot of carbon and the 85 somehow doesnt- its super light. So I painted it with high-temp black and it looks as good as a stock spree power choker can. I will have some pics up ASAP. I always liked the black ones as well as the light blue ones, so heres what I came up with on paper:

Oh, Im gonna be selling alot of what is left over, so if you want/need anything let me know, and I'll get back to you. Sure things right now are complete stock air cleaner/rear fender, the plastic engine covers, stock muffler, all '85 electronics exc. coil, pretty much everything but the engine and rear plastic.

With an engine that has sat for a long time, there are things you should do before you crank it over much less try to fire it up. The first thing it to put the engine close to TDC and pour an ounce of 2 stroke oil in the spark plug hole then let it sit for at least a day. The reason for doing this is after a long time the oil drains off everything and you have metal on metal which tends to tear things up. Then add another ounce of 2 stroke oil, reinstalll the old spark plug and crank it over with the starter with the stop/ run switch in the stop position. Now replace the spark plug with a NEW one and try to start it, if no start then do a compression test.

Wow, I can see that. Never would have thought of it...maybe I should work on that idea a little! Actually, I think Ive changed my mind..gonna go with a nice metallic red, save the black/blue for the '85 build. Im not sure yet. I was lookin at it, and realised I actually dig red Sprees even though I always said I was tired of always seeing only red ones lol. Anyway, today I slammed the front, installed some bigger grips my dad had on a Triumph years ago, (my hands are on the bigger side, these feel alot better) installed rear brake lever from the '85 cause tip was broken off the other one, polished the aluminum control housings, and straightened the turnsignals, as they were, for some reason, bent about as far inward as they would go. It was a funny look that I wasnt really diggin'

You don't plan on running it without the cooling shrouds do you? It will definately overheat that way if you so.

It most definitely IS an Enfield! Its a '99, I bought it new when I was 19, then traded it to my dad to get my first car back lol. He has done some really cool customisations and things on it. They arent a whole lot faster than a Spree stock!

Glad you like the sig, its an inexact quote from, I believe, Benjamin Franklin. Im not sure..I read it once and it stuck in my mind.

when you say "slammed" the front, what do you mean?? Mine is slammed (lowered 1 1/2 - 2 inches)
