I was messing around with a rich-running condition yesterday, and looking for the notches on the slide-needle I noticed these differences between the '85 and '86 needles. I'm running the '85 carb, so I switched to the '85 needle. Slides themselves have no differences.

This is not news. The '84 and '85 have the 5 notches with #4 as stock and the '86 and '87 have the 3 notch needle and the center is stock. Going richer the both have only 1 notch to go.

the thicker needle on the right will run leaner between 1/4 and 3/4 throttle than the needle on the left.

Ahh I see...I figured it was a known difference. So Im guessing... for '86,since the slide needle is smaller, therefor richening the mixture, and knowing the reeds are larger, the main jet is also probably slightly larger?

Nope, main jets are both #68, reeds should have no effect on jetting unless they change the size of the case, which they don't.
