does the magneto need to be replaced?
... or am i missing something... can't get the scooter started, even with starting fluid. i replaced the plug, that's not it. the only thing i can think of is something in the ignition circuit. any help is greatly appreciated!

could be a number of possibilities. but heres a basic breakdown.
things to check for, in order:
1. spark, ignition.
2. fuel flow, from lines and carb.
3. compression, place thumb over sparkplug hole, sping the crank and see if ur thumb pops off. (simple test)
if you have all 3 present, ur scoot will start.

1. yes, excellent spark from new plug
2. yes, fully cleaned the fuel system after scoot was sitting for a while
3. yes, compression seems strong
which is why i'm so confused..... we took off the flywheel and cleaned out some gunk, and using the drill-start method we got it to pop; cleaned the fouled plug, then got back on it; pop...... but still not running.

1) Are you sure the idle jet's clear?
2) Did you reconnect the airbox, with a good filter?

It sounds an awful lot like the problem I'm having. Look at this link here,http://www.hondaspree.net/modules.php?n ... pic&t=1467

i was thinking it could be the pickup (magneto), but it's sparking...
the idle jet's clear and i have gas, but does that really matter if i'm using starting fluid?
i don't have a filter at the moment and the airbox is open so i can squirt starting fluid. but we're choking it with our fingers when we start it (unless it starts flooding)
we think it could be the CDI unit or some bad wires in the ignition system because the spark isn't as bright as it should be...
