Bent Crank/Dio Engine Swap

hi guys, ive been having a problem with my 8000+ mile 86 spree. every time i put a new top end on it, it only lasts about 200 miles then the rings snap because the crank is bent. all or most of the bearings are shot on that engine, and the transmission is going fast. with all this talk of the dio engine on here, i was wondering how difficult it would be to trash the tired engine and upgrade to a newer dio one
i just hate how much the cranks cost, and if i could just get a whole new engine instead of rebuilding one... especially an upgradable new engine

For the money and time involved i would just pick up a 94+elite, ebay had them all the time but i think the word got out on how you can build them up to insanity!

for that conversion you will have to move the shock mounting bolt farther back and get an 87 motor mount. The 87 moto mount would be the fastes and easiest to do. Cut the sides of the mount to fit in the spree frame. The rubber boot of the 87 mount will just fit in the front tube of the spree frame. An elite S motor mount will need cutting and welding done on the tungue. As for the motor side of the 87. You have to drill that out. i would suggest putting in a (class

3/8 inch bolt. You can go with the correct mm bolt but it is ubber expensive at the legth you will need and the sizes are very close to each other. The class 8 bolt is designated by 5 stripes on the top of the hex head. Hope this helps.

this is what a spree could look like with the 87 motor mount and moved shock mount. it all fits in with no plastic cutting.
