hey, i just put the big block kit on my spree and its time to fire it up, i have strong spark and the gas is flowing.tested compression @ 125. why wont she even pop? tried a shot of starting fluid also, nada. on another note it seems the starter dont want to turn the engine over fast enough with the big block kit. i have 12.5 volt with a charger hooked up also. is the starter to weak for the kit? its an 84 with no kicker. i hooke her to a drill and had it spinnin good to give that a try.
any input would be great.thanks chris

Greetings:
Spark timing is controlled at the alternator flywheel. If the magnet wheel was removed and reinstalled incorrectly, it would explain the no-start. Fuel, compression and spark should produce ignition and fire when spun. A fully-charged battery should measure more than 12.5V.

ok ill check the magnet wheel. are there any marks for lining it up? im reserecting a barn find so im not sure if it was fooled with. i did try spinning the engine with a drill and it was cranking fast. what should a good charged battery measure? thank you for your input. chris

Where did you put that shot of starting fluid?
In the carb or spark plug hole?
Try putting some gas/oil mix in the spark plug hole, and see if it pops then.
And it is big bore not big block

Stop doing that! you could ruin your crank.

When the starter motor is cranking, the battery voltage should not drop below 10.5 volts. If it does no stay above 10.5 volts, either the battery is weak, the starter is bad or you have loose or dirty connections at the starter, battery or frame where the grounds go to.
I once had one of the stepsons knock the pulse generator out of alignment and had no spark.

thanks bear, ill check my cranking voltage. i do have great spark. hmmm

Did you try a NEW spark plug?

yes i tried a new plug, nada. tried a few plugs and spark is strong on them all. ill check the magnet wheel tomarrow, is there any marks or will it be obvious where it belongs?

Greetings:
I just measured my spare battery, used to hotwire the starter for compression tests. Last charged 2 weeks ago then used repeatedly to crank the build. It measured 12.43 when I pulled it out. After an hour on the HF Battery maintainer it measured 12.83V.

ok guys, the f on my flywheel matches the mark on the crank case at tdc on the up stroke. brand new plug again. fuel flowing good. not even a pop. great blue white spark. compression @125. what am i missing? all the safety switches cut the spark if need be,is that correct? my battery is at 11.95 volts while cranking and its struggling to turn the motor fast enough. the starter spins it like a champ with no plug in, hmm. checked my ground that was attached to the rectifier its clean and good.

All grounds should be against the frame, otherwise between the frame and the box and not just under the bolt head.
Isn't it amazing how much effort is required to turn over 125 PSI compression compared to NONE?
I recommend you pull the exhaust and see if that lets it start.

guys, shes a runner! running smooth to boot. my starter wont turn her fast enough so on to looking into that. let just say the unmentionable way never sugested to start the scooter got it pumping the fluids and spark it needed. thanks for everyones input. on to getting start power! woo hoo! thanks!
