Hi all. just wondering what you folks think of an nh80 driveline swapped into an 87 se50 ? i have an 83 aero 80 minus the carb. I'd like to make it at least to 55mph. no racing..just cruise. ideas? comments? jokes?

Greetings:

Keep in mind that I've never even seen an Aero 80, let alone ridden one. But according to this,, getting one up to 55 would present some challenges. As far as I've seen, there are no aftermarket bore kits, pipes or gears available. The 80cc smoker, while considerably bigger than the stock displacement 50, was built as something of a performance underachiever, with a top speed in the mid-40s stock. From there, it's hard to see how you could improve much on it. Maybe some of the 50cc line's aftermarket parts can be adapted, but it'd break new ground by trial-and-error. Some talk that a CR-80 piston will fit, but again, not sure how much performance that mod alone would add.

The AF05 block can be brought up to 65cc and maintain reliability. Two of mine went a good bit faster than 55, and by no means did I reach the limit of the possible mods. An AF16 block can reach 120cc with unknown reliability, and several 85-90cc ministrokers reportedly push and break the 70MPH barrier. (Although I've cooked a bore or two trying for that mark myself...) Certainly these engines are easier to adapt to the the '87 frame, mostly bolt-in except for some bushing diameters and such.

All that said, you have an NH80 block to mess with, and maybe not an AF16 or -18 Dio block. I therefore applaud the initiative of modding whatcha got, and will do whatever I can to offer support.

Yup. run what ya brung....I' m getting kinda tired of messing with that afo5e block..replaced just about everything on it new piston ringsand cylinder..got a good 15-20 minutes of ride time after extensive break in. now im back to square one.I have all plastics and title in hand now..almost ready for the street..then it craps on itself..i know the aero 80 isnt a speed demon.but i hear they are d*** reliable. thats all i want now is reliability. i might even opt for a good running afo5e motor...anyone got one?

To cruise at 55mph you might need to go with a native 150cc motor.

I am working on an elite 150 swap right now. We'll see how it turns out, it's really wide and i have a lot of work yet to do.

You mean the kymco Zx50 engine. See the madmax build.

It is running really well. Cruises at 40. Been close to 50 on it and the take-off is crazy good. But, it is pushed by the wind very easily and on a 40mph road where I cruise it is slightly underpowered. I considered a bore and some very rare gears, but It works so well the way it was designed. I am really looking for the reliability that come with a stock engine and a honda 150 will cruise 40-50 all day and can still pull is i need to pass someone or run from the cops.

Sorry to hijack

With enough time and skill/money it can happen. The trouble is most 150's are horizontal nowadays and this causes all sorts of problems with hanging and clearance and length.
