Hi all,
I was recently reading up on making my 87 Elite 50 go faster and came across this in the Advance tech docs:
"The stock variator, The variator is located behind kickstart housing on the crankshaft has a plate held in place by 3, 7mm screws on the back that limits how high the trans. will shift up to limiting its speed. remove the pulley by using an impact gun and remove this plate from the back of the variator.. reinstall variator, and u will have gained *(5mph.)*"
Then I was working on my 80 - it is really winding out before hitting 35 and acting like it needs new rollers and possibly a belt. I checked the service manual before diving in and saw that same limiter plate.
My question is: has anyone ever tried removing that plate on an 80 - should I expect the same result? Any reason not to?
