Hey guys, I just got a 1986 Honda Spree from a friend for 5$. Its been sitting in his yard for 5 months, theres a lot of rust on it and the batterys dead. But he said it just needs a new battery, gas is fresh. I dont see a kickstart on it, idk if its supposed to have one, but I have no way of seeing if it even starts. Can someone give me a way to start it without kickstart/electric start? How would I jump it with a car battery. Pic below, more pics tomorrow

you definitely need either kickstart or electric start, or you're going to have a very hard time starting.
Im sure members on here withh have a kickstart setup that they'd be willing to sell!

Ok, But im getting a trickle charger tomorrow, its 1.5amps for 6 and 12 volt batteries with floatmode(???)? I might try to jump it with a car battery, the kickstart has been takenoff. I have no idea where it went, but it was definitely there

by looks of pic (kinda hard to see, need to see the side of motor to be sure) looks like side case is OFF the motor? as in belts exposed n such. Does it have a sidecase to go on it? If so..it should have a shaft stickin outta the case. If not..then the case is prolly an 85. Make sure spree is an 85. it oughta say up front. RH side, in front of leg panel. (bar that comes down from steering knuckle where handlebars tie in..) If it IS an 86, it should have a kickstart. although..like i said..side looks to be missing? ALSO, if side cover IS missing..the electirc start wont do you anygood anyhow.. PRetty sure the sidecase is required to hold starter bendix in place. Also, Taboggan is correct about car battery. You'll melt that thing down like...Yesterday. lol
Now i'm sure some other ppl can chime in to get ya in right direction on whats up. If you aint gotta sidecase..you NEED ONE! bottom line... There is another way to tell if motor is 86 or pre 86, but that has to be verified by removal of the head.. If head and piston are Domed..its 86 or newer. If its all flat, 85 or older. Good indicator.
anyhow...5 bucks.. * yah. good deal.

If you look close at the pic the trans cover is sitting on the floor on top of the side panels

Yeah, ALL the fairings/belt cover are on the floor. and I saw a little fork sticking out of one the cases and 2 prongs on the bike itself? Im guessing the prongs go on the forks to complete the circuit? so ill need to reattach that before i start it. Idk if i can get the trickle charger tomorow so as long as I dont start the car I can use a car battery to jump it?

That ain't the way electricity works. Just because you have a big battery with lots of amps available, does not mean that it will supply anymore amps than the starter requires to do the job. Where the trouble starts is the dumb s*** who just keeps cranking the starter for longer than 5 seconds at a time with out the required 10 seconds between cranks and heats up the starter, wires and solenoid. Thats when the trouble starts, as the high heat raises the amp requirement, with the little stock battery can not do, but the big one will. So don't get stupid and there is no problem.

Yes you can jump it off a car battery if you do not start the car(although it still probably wouldn't do any harm maybe blow the fuse) and yes you need a key to start it.

Ok, So I found this.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda-NQ ... 0222250512
Says it fits multiple years blah blah.
Where the kickstarts supposed to be on my spree, theres a little gear that is connected to the big gear that the belts hooked onto, so I just buy that lever and screw it on or whatever? anyone got a guide? And Ill be jumping it tomorow first thing with my moms car battery.
