not really just need the correct method. use your feet to keep it compressed as you loosen it.

yes it is a pain in the *
Put the clutch in a vise
get a huge cresent wrench
loosen the big nut
take the clutch out of the vise
step on the clutch near the sides with your feet
Spin the nut the rest of the way off
slowly take your feet off of the clutch
good luck.
I did this 3 times today. I am a pro at it.

Pros don't use crescent wrench's. The use sockets and box end wrench's and if necessary open end wrench's. But crescent wrench's.............NOT!

What size socket fits on that nut?
The biggest I have is 36mm, and that did not fit.
I have taken several clutches apart with my trusty cresent wrench with zero problems.
But I agree a socket would be better.

Manual say the special tool is a 39 X41, so I would assume it is it is 39 m or 41 mm and I would say a 39 mm. But hey someone needs to take a nut in and get a socket for it.
PS: I have sockets up to 2 5/8" and 36 mm but I will buy whatever I need to do the job right. Oh and yes I do have crescent wrenches, a 4", 6" (2), 8", 10", 12" and 16", but I use them as hammers more often than as wrenches

Well then I will buy a 39mm socket tomorrow, so I can maintain my "Pro" status.

Then I guess I'm 1-up in "pro" status from the sockets; I bought a set of Polini wrenches (2 wrenches; 2 different sizes on each side) specifically for removing all the common Japanese / Italian / Spanish sizes of clutch-contra spring large nuts.
The wrenches are HUGE to easily get torque going on, and removing.

Since I haven't done a clutch yet and I don't have a 39 or 41 mm unless one my SAE sockets will work. Let's see a 39 mm = 1.54", then a 41 mm = 1.61".
My uncle was a Caterpillar mechanic, he had sockets up to like 4".
