Ok I got some good news. I got one of my companies in Japan to help me. There might have to be a little engine fabing but a dremel can easily handle the job. The crank needs to extended a little. So this is easily done by pushing the seal down and trimming a little off right above the oil pump casing around the crank. The good news is that a new face plate(fly wheel)and dio style variator will right on. And there might be an option to use the dio belt. Yes that is correct. You might be able to use the dio belt. That is not set in stone as of yet. There will be 6 rollers.
I am trying to get a new back plate design that is concave to avoid the case mod. We will see. So there is good news and progress in the spree variator. I will keep everyone informed. Thats right Taz is da man. What up

but the dark side (af16e) is fun too!!! you should pick up a beater spree and just try an af16e swap just so you can say you did it and to judge if people are nuts to swap p.s. keep the af16e stock too its fun and very rideable...

But I want to keep the Spree stock, engine wise. I have an Aero 50 to mod, plus a couple of Aero 80s and an Aero 125 to play mod with. Besides I've had the Spree since 1985, so if the off the line issue is cured, I'll be happy with it. Oh and I have 2 Aero 50 engines spare sitting on my bench, if I do decide to do a swap. I don't need to be the fastest kid on the block anymore. Been there and done that a number of times.

Taz
Every dog has its day! and i for one, cant wait to see the spree become variated.. NO, i dont own one anymore..BUT, i did and i do know what a variator will do for the spree!! Wow that'd be awesome! cant wait to see the HONDA spree kick these Jap scooters in the *! especially since they're from the mid 80's and were of the smallest scoots in that class (spree, aero, elite)
Although, no surprise hearing this from taz...i mean...he IS DA MAN when it comes to upgrade parts for the spree! Rock on Taz!
