Lately I really like the look of the older Honda scooters.
The Honda Express

The Honda Express SR


I like the style of the Express II the best but I really like the 10" rims from the Express SR

That, combined with the fact that I think every Honda scooter needs a DIO swap, Is the inspiration behind my new project.

I call it the Honda Express II SRX.

It is a 1980 Honda Express II with a spree front rim and brakes, powered by an AF16E

To put a spree front rim and brakes on a 1980 express II is a little tricky


The front forks are very different from each other. Spree(left) Express II(right)


This is the top of a Express II fork. It has a pin and a cap that keeps the hardware on the fork.


This is the top of a spree fork. It has a flared ridge at the top to keep everything in place


The spree forks must be cut just after the flared edge. Top leg(uncut) bottom(cut)


Now with the flared tops off the spree forks and the caps off of the Express II forks, the express II hardware can be swapped to the spree forks. Notice the Express II hardware screws in to the fork tubes. (The reason for the hardware swap)


The spree forks now fit perfecly into the express fork tubes.


This is as far as I made it today. I will start on the engine mount soon

i have 9 express' and 2 express sr's if you need parts...

The Honda Express II SRX Project is moving right along.

My goal today was to get the dio engine mounted to the scooter.

I started with a stock SA50 mount, instead of building one from scratch.





Here it is mounted to the Express


And with the AF16E too




Engine mount on.

Now for a place to mount the shock

With the engine mount done, It was time to focus on where to mount the rear shock.


It was pretty clear that I was going to have to fabricate something here.

I found some nice thick walled metal tube from a trike project that had been sitting out back for a while.
I measured the pieces I needed and cut them on the chop saw. I cut a little of the side of my finger too just cause. ouch!

I forgot to take any pictures of the pieces I cut, until I tacked a couple welds on. (Forgive me, I was bleeding pretty bad)

Only one piece was needed to mount the shock, but I added a second piece to the other side , so it looked symmetrical, and so it did not look out of place



And the rear rack still fits very nice.

You come up with the craziest stuff.

I'd like to try that with my FA50, but with a minarelli or clone, if I could ever find one. If I threw a upright in there, I'd have to make it a stretch.

I can get a Jog minarelli for $150, i just haven't bought it since i don't have anything to use it on.

Zuph you must be reading my mind!, thats what im thinking about doing with my FA50 if i can find a good minarelli.

i did the exact same to my 3 fingers back in may man. Index, middle, and ring fingers. fell onna metal heater in my garage.

Imma make a suggestion for ya..not that you need to listen to me, just making a suggestion. GO get it stitched up man. Thats a bend point in your finger that CONSTANTLY moves. Trust me, if you dont stitch it, it'll take forever to heal. like...a long time!! i had mine stitched, and hardly used them and they still took like 3 weeks.

One other thing that helps heal quicker, find someone with a hot tub!! THOSE work great..i think its cuz of the bromine in the water.. YES...it WILL BURN LIKE SIN for quite some time, BUT, it will heal quicker! i did this at the hotel i was stayin at while i was in minnesota. haha, cut my fingers bad, then 3 days later i flew upto brainerd MN to work at WauSua Paper for 2.5 weeks. Used hot tub to help heal! Now of course, i waited till it was partially healed so i didnt get it infected, OR infect other ppl with the "Crazies" disease i have..haha

But on the note of your build..dood...i wish i had more scooters to compete with ya! lol Your build looks great, and i cant wait to see how it turns out.
Also, i like your scooter holding system (4x2's just wide enough for tires..) Very similar setup as used for Full size bikes! your BRILLIANT! Keep up good work man!

My next project will be a Jet ski that i got given to me with all the paper work at trailer! i cant wait to work on that and get it ready for next summer! Wooo! well...another project i have lined up is puttin valve guides N stuff in the harley...but that wont be major.

Thanks for your concern WAGS. But I already had it looked at. Since it is not really a "cut" there is not much the hospital can do to stitch it up. A chunk of my finger is just gone. Mostly just skin, it should grow back.


I am glad you like the build.

It is moving along at quite a nice pace.

I still need a gas tank for this scooter to run, and I am not 100% sure on what I wanna do.

Ebay has these in black and chrome.


they are normally for moped convertions like this.

But might not look too bad on the express II SRX

What do you think?

Why not go with the stock tank? I think thats the cleanest looking option, but its really up to you

cause I don't have one.

And now with the new shock mount location, not sure if the stock one would fit.

I agree with your opinion of the "clean look"

I could go with a small lawn mower or go cart gastank and hide it behind the seat.

I am open to sugestions.

Or even somehow build it into the rear rack somehow like the 77 Express. Dude hope the finger's OK.
