I recently got a 87 spree. I have cleaned out the carb several times. Tested the Petcock seems to be fine, but i cannot get the bike to stay on. It cranks up and stays on for a bit but bogs and dies after a few mins. I have tried messing around with the idle screw and air screw per the instructions on the cleaning the carb faq. but still nothing. It starts up also mostly when i spray carb cleaner into the carb on the air box side. Anyone know anything else i can try?
Btw I love this site. Thanks to everyone who has posted technical docs and help. This site is awesome!

Clean the carb again but way better and stop spraying carb cleaner in there! Make sure that tiny hole in the bowl is clean, you should be able to see light if you shine a flashlight down the hole that leads to that tiny hole. And make sure everything is sealed up like it should be.

I cleaned it again. It's super clean. I even took the little tube out. There is light passing threw the little hole. Still will not start unless I spray the carb cleaner in the air intake.

I appreciate you both for replaying. but those are the guides i followed. I have thoroughly cleaned the carb. the scooter will not start up at all unless i spray it. i have cleaned the carb about 7 times total. I know its super clean. when i hook the air box up and dont spray it it will only start up if i let it sit for a really long time. but it runs for a minute. When i hold the throttle wide open it revs high but then begins to slowly die then turn off all together.
The carb is clean.
the petcock is working fine.
the spark plug is also good and not wet at all.
any other suggestions would be great im at my wits end.

Then your float level is to low and or the idle mixture screw is set too lean or both. Then of course you could be wrong about how clean the carb is.

First of all welcome. How is the air filter? tube between the carb and air box? connection to the intake and carb? All of these must be tight for it to run properly.

Welcome,
Do you know if gas is getting to the carb? Is there fuel when you loosen the drain screw on the carb bowl?
I agree with bear about the float. How long does it stay running?
Did you check the compression on the motor?

If you can't there is no idle/low speed fuel. even with the air screw in you should be able to get air thru it. However The amount of air that will flow is minimal. Try spraying carb cleaner or WD-40 into it and then you should see fluid in two places. One in the throttle bore and also out the vent at the mouth of the carb. Oh your engine is starting on the fuel from the bystarter (choke) and your engine is going lean when it quits running, which is not good. Also the air cleaner box must be in place, with a good oiled filter in place and the lid on the air box or the engine will not run above idle.
