Contemplating some upgrades...

Post by gulfstorm »

Hello All,

I have been on this forum for about a year now. Got two sprees, 85 and 86. Looking to do some upgrades on one of them. My 86 runs quite well but there is an air leak somewhere in my intake or carb system. My screw on the carb has to be in all the way for the thing to run without stalling. That aside I am looking at the BBK purchase but I havent been able to find a step by step guide for doing it anywhere. I understand that it is quite easy to do and I have some experience with working on engines. That is the only upgrade I am looking it but I understand that a lot of people also do gears! I ll keep on looking at these forums for answers.

Cheers,

gulfstorm

it really isnt that hard and the kit from tazland001 will have the instructions with it. and i would go woth the 48 mm bbk and his gears. while you are at it get his exhaust pipe if they are for sale now, i know you just said the bbk but all will make for a better scoot :imo: :thumbwink: good luck with the build and we will be here to help.

Thanks a lot. Great to hear that they come with instructions. I ll look into gears as well. Does the stock carb work okay with the bigger bore?

yo,,if you can jet your stock carb then it will work, with the bbk ,its going to crave more fuel,up your main jet and put an exhaust and punch your airbox., oh and gears like you were sayin so your not sitting at a high rpm

Actually the stock carb, with a rejet, will work with the 44mm, but it just ain't big enough for the 48mm. To get the most out of the 48 mm you need more carb.

You could always mate a CT intake from a dio to it :geekdance:
Its not hard to do at all, just takes a lot of time
With that intake you could then attach a bigger carb, whatever size you want

just go with the 44, if you go with the 48 and ct manifold go luck finding a carb that isnt to big and it tuning it is impossible.... well next too..... the 48 came out way to fast before there where upgrades to keep up with it..... my ported 44 is asking for more air as it is.....

Well yeah I dunno if mine will work yet or not. I managed to snag a deal on eBay where the ct came with a 21mm oko and high flow k&n. If it doesn't work then there are always alternatives

I actually started with the 48 kit and gears, but went to the 44 and it seems much more tunable. Runs great, good power. All else is stock. I'm running an 85 main jet, punched 4 7/8 inch holes in the top of the stock air box, cleaned and oiled the filter, all is well. I'm still in the break-in stage, but it seems to be running great so far. It's set at about two turns on the mixture screw. I'm running a little oil in the gas plus the oil injection. Hope this helps.

Did you go down to the 44 because it was more tunable?

If you want to stay with the stock intake and exhaust systems, then yes, to big is bad.
