B. Mc.,
Do a search. Wheelman has several posts on best way to accomplish this. Whatever you do, DO NOT scratch or gouge the case  , this will result in a poor seal condition. Take your time, young man.

Greetings:

Get the sharpest putty knife you can find. Then throw it away! :)

Sinceriously, this is the ugliest, most PITA task any assembler ever performs, but worth the time it takes.
I use a stainless-steel razor in a plastic holder for a buck at Harbor Freight. Make sure you hold it flat and resist the temptation to start in with the corner of the blade. A gouge will have Bad Consequences.
Shave carefully a mm at a time. Stop when you see aluminum on any portion of the mating surface and move to the next segment.

Once all recognizable paper is stripped off, move to a fine abrasive over a block of straight wood or metal and sand away all traces with the block held rigorously square to the surface.

Slather the new gasket liberally on both sides with hi-temp grease to avoid having to do this next time.

Greetings:

I've never found the aerosols all that effective, and they sure can make a mess of your engine. And your fingers  .

Some of the aerosol work well but you have to be patient. The stuff does not work "NOW!" The outboard manufactures have several products between them that do work (all the outboards have aluminum blocks too) and as a guy who did this professionally, gouging the aluminum is way too easy even for someone who does it all the time.

Thanks again guys...I am by know means a professional, I would say handy but no professional!! LOL. I think I will try some gasket remover first...let it sit over night and see how it looks or how easy itcomes off the next day. I have my old piston, head, and cylinder off now for sale on here and on ebay so I can have a couple extra bucks towards a 50 BBK kit. So Believe me I will be patient with it and get everything cleaned up in th emean time. I have rags and a towel over the whole scooter to assure that it stays clean. Lookin forward to spring should be fun!! Someone told me my stock carb with a 85 main jet and the needle set to the lowest setting on the throttle would be ok...do you guys agree with this?? I plan on premixing to 4 oz per gallon. Sound about right?? Just wanting to make sure...afterall this is my first scoot project would hate to lock it up!! Thanksguys...this project would have never happened without your advice and expertise.
