I've been having a problem lately with my 85 Aero 50...My scooter is getting lower overall acceleration, but more importantly, when I ride for more than 15mins I will ubruptly loose ALL acceleration and the scoot will start to slow down. If I twist the throttle back and forth several times it will usually start accelerating again, but I keep feeling like I'm in danger of it dying. I haven't been able to find anything in the forums, any suggestions??
Recent changes: my scooter died recently because the carb bolts had rattled loose over time and the carb literally came off. I'm guessing by this that it was loosely attached for quite some time. I wondered if dirt/contaminants, etc might have gotten into the system during this time. I did thoroughly clean the carb and petcock. This problem started within a few weeks or so of this happening, not sure if there's a connection.

Re: Acceleration problems - 85 Aero 50
Greetings:
There could be unrelated reasons, but keeping with your loose carb theory:
Did you make sure the carb flange threads aren't stripped? Those bolts usually don't "rattle loose" if they were properly torqued and the threads aren't screwed up.
If that isn't the issue, change the spark plug as a cheap and easy first step. That alone might fix the issue. It will also afford an opportunity to check the plug's color and at least give you a hint if your engine is too rich - dirty air filter? - or too lean - vacuum leak?
Keep us posted?
