manifold problem

okay, heres the dealio. if i spray starting fluid on top if the spot where the carburetor and the intake manifold while the engines running i can hear a difference in the way it sounds. one of the o rings on the carb was bad so i bought a set and replaced what was bad. and i noticed that the red/orange insulator that goes between has a small crack but not big. but i bought one anyways so i should be getting it in a few days. once i put on the new o rings i tried out the starting fluid test and its still doing the same thing. now im starting to think that the intake manifold was shaved off by somebody a while back by one of the owners because it looks a little scratchy if you know what i mean. sooo if the new insulator doesnt solve the problem, would you think that i should go over the manifold and smoothen it out with something?because i dont want to spend any money on a new manifold. any advice is appreciated, THANK YOU

O-rings can go bad, but usually it's pretty old to begin with. Some O-rings deteriorate faster that others, while some may have just gotten the wrong combination of chemicals on it. No matter what, if an O-ring goes south on you, best thing to do is to either order a new one as soon as you can, or do like what I did and try to match yours up to one(or a box of em') at the local hardware store. I purchased a box of around 10 O-rings at the local Home Depot for a few bucks for one of my airsoft guns, but they also just so happened to replace the O-rings on both my starter and the oil pump as well. My advice; if you can, shop around, buy in bulk, and you could get out a lot cheaper than buying OEM O-rings from the dealer. Plus you'll have spares, so you will have enough to (hopefully) last for a long time.

Mike, if you can post a picture of the spot on the intake manifold where you'd need to smooth out, please do. That way we can let you know if or what to shave off of the target area. Also, make sure to check the reed-valve area for any leaks, and let us know when you get that new carb heat- isolater in.

Mike,

Greg has seen most of these o-rings go bad in these scoots. I'd recommend replacing the o-ring with a new one (the plastic part can be reused.)

i already replaced the o rings, and air is still getting through. the orange insulator has a small crack so i ordered a new one and ill be getting it in a few more days.

air is basically getting through at the top and nothing on the bottom so if the new insulator doesnt work, the manifold was probably shaved off previously and uneven
