anyone have any tips on modifting a pipe to work for the dio? like buying some pipe and cuting and welding it to fit? would it be better to use a close as i could pipe as for as cc's go? like get a 70cc for a 70cc bore? i was thinking something like this

EliteDio concocted such a pipe for his Dio-fitted Elite "E" and enjoyed good performance. Your're right that the lengths and tapers and diameters matter a lot for optimal performance.

While there is great satisfaction in Doing It Yourself, there is no shortage of affordable ready-made options. The Phongeer Long (PG Long) is about $150 at VT Cycles and all the engineering has been done for you if you're running a 72cc-90cc kit. Many cheaper options can be found on eBay and at JiangWayne in BC Canada.

yeah i seen that thread, i just think it would be neat to make it my self lol

That pipe would be too much for a 70 kit. It is designed to flow higher RPMs and almost double the displacement.

Yes, match the bore (displacement) and RPM range for power band. The porting and the pipe must work together for max performance.

okay thats what i was thinking to, i know its more than just that, cuz you have to know how the pipe is gona expand and stuff

There are several reference books out there on building pipes. Gordon Jennings is the first on to come to mind.

For the time and money you'll have into building your own (and most likely looking rather crappy) you will be far better off to just buy a ready made pipe. They can be found for less than $100 in good used condition.

Yeah Ik that but its just more of away to mess around a lil bit

start with a pipe that has a detachable head pipe and make your own easiest way to do it if i can find a link to the pipe i will post it

If you are building a pipe instead of modifying a pipe, then there are calculations to be made. The math isn't as hard as it is built up to be.

if you think that you can build a better pipe than polini or malossi which are in direct competion with all there parts, go for it

It's not always a question of building a better pipe. It's about Doing It Yourself, and getting pretty good results. There's merit in that too.
