Flushing Oil Tank

Flushing Oil Tank
Just picked up another Spree the other day, and I'm in the process of tearing it down and doing all the preventative maintenance, cleaning the carb, etc. After draining the oil tank I'm left with quite a bit of buildup in the bottom. I've pulled it off but I'm unsure of what I should use to flush it with. I tried searching but didn't have any luck... what would you guys recommend?
Re: Flushing Oil Tank
mineral spirits should dissolve the old oil and dirt and is less harsh than other things like carb cleaner
Re: Flushing Oil Tank
Do you have to rinse the mineral spirits out with anything? Or do you just let it air dry and then you're good to go?Rooney140 wrote:mineral spirits should dissolve the old oil and dirt and is less harsh than other things like carb cleaner
Re: Flushing Oil Tank
Anything high-flashpoint would work. I like gasoline... even at $4/gallon it's cheap as a solvent. Hot water and dish soap would work as well.
Use compressed air to dry gasoline, hair dryer for water (not gasoline!!!) or just lay it in the sun with the caps off.
Make sure to clean out the gunk in the filter at the bottom of the tank... those load up with grease and stop flowing.
