Kick start problems in 89 elite

I have an 89 Honda Elite, and I seem to be missing some parts. I know the muffler's gone, but something is missing in the belt-box too. I noticed that the kick starter gear didn't match up with any of the other gears, and then I noticed some kind of gear imprint in the rust. The part was between 2 other gears. What am I missing? Or, can anyone post a picture of the belt setup on their 50cc Honda Elite? Preferrably an 89....
Oh, and the electric start is hopeless. The battery's leaked all over and half of the starter fell out when I opened the casing.

Go to tech docs and d/l the manual for your scoot. If you're still confused, post back with pics. Sounds like you have a basket case, which is OK but we'll need more info to proceed.

Heck with it. I pulled it from a scrap pile...I'm NOT going to have tech docs. I didn't want to tell you where it came from, because all people will tell me is it's trash then. Can you tell me where to get the tech docs and stuff? Oh...I could try to get pics, but my webcam's crappy....don't laugh at me when I post pics though(LOL)

Dtaylor... He's referring to the Tech Docs forum on this site... The manual for your scoot (or a link to it) is probably in there. It's cheap as free.

Oh, and don't worry about where you got your scoot from... Whether it was give to you by a wealthy sultan or you picked it up from a landfill... Everyone here has at least one scavenged or modded part on their ride.
Thanx for telling me that(in the other topic)...I was laughed at when I picked it up, so that's why I was hesitant to post pics.

S'ok, when I went to AutoZone to get new plugs, I had to have them look 'em up. When they found out they were for a scooter, they said "So, you abuse yourself a lot, don't ya"...
I took it in good humor. A scooter rider who isn't smiling, is doing something wrong.

The site exists to keep Honda scoots out of the trash; it's where I found my first one. See the graphic at the bottom of the page.

I would say though, that a scooter rider who IS smiling AND working on his scooter at the same IS doing something that I'm not....LOL
