Last week I was working on a friend's Elite & my neighbor came over to BS. He's was like "Hey, I've got a sccoter in my shed if you want it for parts or something." "Ive had it since I was 16 but it hasnt ran in a few years." The guys in his 30 now BTW. Anyway, It's missing the rear plastics & air box lid as far as I can see.
So I started messing with it today, cleaned carb, changed plug & cleaned out gas tank. I couldnt get it to go anything. Finally I check the compression...NOTHING!

Rings?

ding ding ding we have a winner
well most likely or the head is loos if he was 16 and he may have remove the head and its not put the gasket back and its loose..you need about 90+ psi to run.I 'm sure that it wood not hurt it munch to take the top end off the ring may just be stuck. you may want to download the repair manual from here it may help you out
stock spre need the lid to the air filter box or that wont run right most of the time..
have fun and spre is a 4 letter word

In all reality, the head being loose is that last thing to consider. Did you pour a teaspoon of 2 stroke oil into the cylinder and let it sit overnight before you cranked the engine over? If not you were grinding metal rings and piston against metal bore. And yes, chances are the rings are stuck and the oil would have freed them. It still could. OH and by "nothing", do you mean no movement of the needle on the gauge?

Havent checked if the head is loose, I didnt do the oil in the cylinder before I cranked or overnight.
I meant nothing as in firing up, it did backfire once, more like a poof.

Gonna go put oil in there now..

Okay. I ordered new rings & gaskets since I wasnt getting any compression. I just dug into the Spree today to find it needs something more than just rings. The cylinder & piston is all scratched up. On one side of the piston, the rings are flush with the piston from all the scratches. I have no idea what caused all the scratching but it looks like Im gonna need a cylinder & a piston.
Here's a pic although its kinda crappy..

Anyone know someone selling a cylinder & piston pretty cheap? Are there any other options with the Spree?

I also have an spare 87 Elite that I can swap the engine. Not too sure what's involved in doing that but that engine will also need to be torn into do to low compression.

You can get a BBK for either motor for about $100. but, then you have to premix and upjet the carb.

Not too sure I wanna BBK. I put a 72cc on a friends 95 Elite & had nothing but problems with it.

With the Elite motor mounted to the Spree, it should be faster than normal right? I can always put in a better variator & weights. I think Ive read there arnt many options if any as far as gears for that Elite engine. Upjetting isnt a problem, I have several different sizes of jets.

Premix? Like mix the oil & gas instead of having an oil tank? Why do I have to do that if I go with a BBK? I ride for long distances and that would be a pain in the buttox...

Yes the Elite engine will be faster. Premix due the fact the larger bore will require more oil. Gear sets are difficult to obtain for the variated AFO5E.

Get an over sized piston and have the cylinder over bored and honed to match the piston. Then you will have a LBBK (Little Big Bore Kit).

Oh and the stuck rings and scratches are from cheap oil and overheating.
