My blinkers only work when I have the throttle open. Any idea why and how I can fix this?

Do you have a charged battery installed?

Nope, I assume that is the problem.

yes, the alternator is not enough to trip the flasher. i have the same problem on my aero.
if i rev the engine they blink. if i put on the brake and divert power, it stops blinking. if im at the light idling, they dont flash.
remedy: get a new battery or charge the one you've got.
