Ghetto Fab Hot Wiring. (lost key)

Post by miglia-spyder »

Ok so i bought an elite from craigslist. The kid said he lost the key, So i took the ignition off and connected the wires together and now i can get the lights to turn on and the motor to turn over... but now it doesnt have spark (the kid said it ran, But im not sure). Is their something i have to do with the kill switch?

You'd want to be more specific what wires you connected together...

Red connected to Black - powers up devices on switched +12v Batt
Green tied to Black wire/White stripe - kills the ignition.

-- Explanation --
The Ignition switch ties the Black/White stripe wire to ground when in the "Off" position. Black/White wire runs to the CDI to inhibit spark when grounded. In the ignition "On" position, the Black/White stripe wire should be open.

So in your set up, the Black/White stripe wire should only go to the kill switch.

Ok sorry, There are 4 wires that i have connected (2 seperate connections)

1. Red and black (turns the power on)

2. Green and black (I thought this was to the starter) is it actually whats causing the no spark?

Yes, disconnect the Green and Black with white stripe wire, that is what is shutting off the ignition.. Use the stop run switch to shut the motor off. While you have it apart pull the ignition switch and remove the mounting plate. There is a number under the plate on the switch. With that number, or better yet take the switch with you to the Honda dealer and get a couple of keys made.

FYI, go to the here and down load the service manual for your scooter.
