93 Elite 50SR Starts and Runs, but Won't Idle

Hi Guys,
My 93 Elite 50 died on me the other day. I can get it started (not easily) and it will run as long as I keep the throttle open, but it dies as soon as I come to a stop or as soon as I let the throttle go to idle.
Any advice would be appreciated. I'm not a bad DIYer, but I know nothing about carbeurators so the more detail the better. I have already replaced the spark plug and played with the idle speed screw a little bit. It didn't seem to help.
Thanks in advance,
Jim Moore
Edit: I've been reading through some of the tech docs. Recently mine has had another symptom. It wants to idle high and stay at a high idle even after it is warmed up. Could I be having a bystarter issue? (Not that I would know a bystarter if it jumped off the bike and bit me in the *.)
Edit2: Hot d***! I fixed it. I got all the plastic off and started looking around. Eventually I figured out the carbuerator was hanging on by one bolt, a loose bolt a that. The other bolt had disappeared completely. Luckily I have a vast storehouse of fasteners from 15 years of wrenching on BMW motorcycles. Sure enough I found one the right length and thread pitch. I tightened that b**** down and "VROOOOOM!" the mighty scooter came to life. Sweet!
