Post by Spree-Mart 24/7 »

ok so.85 spree. ran slow yesterday in the rain as usual. but i had terrible performance. its warmer today and on my ride to work, it started making a sound as if extra gas wasc being spit out. then the bike jumped from 27 all the way to 41 in a matter of seconds. like i fed it nitro lol. km thinkin a new jet will b good for the cold. whar size? and anythoughrs in speed boost?

This erratic jump to 41mph....I would assume your gauge to be malfunctioning bro. I own a '84 and the only time she hit's 40 (indicated speed of course) was when going down an incline, throttle fully open and with me tucking in and plastering my face to the gauge face. Check the speedo cable found on your front wheel.
As for any performance upgrades, there's a dude on here (taz or tazland, I believe he's called) that makes some aftermarket big-bore kits and a larger carb and stuff. Search the forum, you'll get more info.
Peace.

if you read the origional post i said that i felt it speed up. it was a litteral speed jump. the base limit is 35 and i was passing the cars around me in right lane. its like the bike got a rush of energy. the same happened today. after a small hill it made the same sound. then sped up and even while going up the hill it continued to gain speed. also note the speedo cable is under 200 miles on it.

Prehaps you went by a meth lab house leaking some combustible gasses into the intake?

you may need to ajust to float in the carb .. the speed thing may be that the carb got either to munch gas or the right amount to run at wot ??

How about the spark plugs though...usually, if you have defective or used up plugs, there will be fluctuations in speed (typically though it's a sudden DROP in speed rather than an increase, as is in your case). It could be worth your while to check the state of the plugs.
Hope I helped somewhat.
