Old cylinder gasket won't come off.

I am replacing the cylinder because the exhaust flange cracked off and Paul sent me a refurb'd one. The gasket on the crankcase won't come off. It's * on there. I have a new base gasket. Should I add it on there? Seems like it would unseat the ports more and lose a bit of compression or is it a non-issue? Only reason I want to put this new gasket on is because I have it, it's apart and doesn't sound like a bad idea.

The gasket is necessary. Both the head gasket and the cylinder gasket. Without it, the case is going to suck vacuum.
A gasket scraper always works for the cylinder gasket. Make sure you stuff a rag around the rod and keep anymaterial from going into the case. As for the bottom of the cylinder, I always use a razor knife and carefully scrape all the old gasket off. The head gasket is metal and should separate easily.

What I'm saying is if I can't get the old one off...I have the new one. I place the new one on top of the old one and put everything back together...any adverse effects?

Yes, it's bad if you double the gaskets.
Remove the old one, then install new. It really isn't that hard.
You're going to have leaks if you don't.

Remember that on a 2-stroke, compression happens both above and below the piston. Pressurization of the crankcase is what forces fuel up top. That's why that gasket is so important.

I know this is probably already a dead issue, but, if you use the double gasket, you wont have anywhere near the compression you once had. How hard is it to just scrape it off? Even I had the patience to do it, w/o a "hammer and a wrench". lol. Just take it off.
