HI guys,
this scoot runs and rides great once you get it up and running but it never likes to start when cold. kickstart doesnt work so i usually kill the battery trying to start then have to recharge it (you know the drill).

only way ive been getting it up and running each time is to spray starting fluid. i know people say youre not supposed to but i figure i cant trouble shoot it without it running. Is there any truth to this? I would imagine by the time its running oil is lubricating the cylinder just fine.

so far ive put a new plug in it, cleaned the carb pretty good. main jet, bowl etc. it was a little nasty so i was really hopeful that the good cleaning would fix the problem but it didnt. the only jet i removed was the main. the cleaned the other ones while in (the ones i could see) perhaps im missing one that crucial for a startup?

my next step is to replace the choke ? any other suggestions?

thanks a mil

Jaunty

Adjust the idle mixture screw per the procedure in the service manual and that is not just setting it to the base setting listed in the manual.

What bear said plus if its the bystarter that is messed up you can turn the air screw in a bit more to richen it up for cold starts then turn it back out once the engine has warmed up

The starting fluid is very bad for your 2 stroke engine.

Get a small spray bottle with gas/oil mix if you must spray it.

Your bystarter is probably the cause of your problem.
