where do I find aftermarket grips for the spree

I need to find a nice set of grips for my passport chopper that fit the spree handlebars. I used the controls from the spree and had to make the handlebar dia the size of the spree grips.

Anyone know the spree grips size, and where i can find some aftermarket ones.

Measure your bar diameter and take that to any bike shop. Tell them the grips are for a twist throttle.

the 1in and 7/8in grips on ebay will fit though they are a tad bit longer on the ends. the ones i got are sorta like these but mine have skull and crossbones instead of flames

Word up! A lot of bike grips for cruisers look really awesome on Sprees. The easiest thing to do is to buy a rubber grip, throw a little bit of dish soap on it and slide it on. A little bit of effort, but the results are really cool. Fairly cheap, too.

So they are 1in and 7/8in in dia. I went to get a new set today and they were that size, but i mistaked the size as 1-7/8in...

yup 1in on the throttle slide and 7/8in on the opposite

The easiest thing to do is to buy a rubber grip, throw a little bit of dish soap on it and slide it on.

hairspray and/or compressed air works even better.
you can use a blow-gun to slide the grips on dry, OR you can use a little hairspray to slide them on , then use the blowgun to dry the hairspray.

I prefer WD-40 as it drys and acts as an adhesive between the grip and bar.

I cant believe Bear said use WD-40! Petroleum products are not good for the rubber and it will not bond it to the bar.

You want to order a set of grips for 7/8" bars. ONE inch bars are for the Harley (and some metric cruiser) crowd. Some kits have both grips the same size and some better ones have a slightly larger throttle grip.

Air is wonderful for removing the old grips. Sometimes with REALLY good glue I have to use an old hacksaw blade to separate the glue from the bar. The blade will also help to remove old glue left. Goo gone can clean off any remnants. Scotch Super 77 is a GREAT spray glue that will attach the grip as good as stock. You dont want the grip to come loose later. Way back in history I was racing in an endurance race with my brothers motorcycle and the grip came off as I exited the last corner at Loudon! Work fast if you are using the Super 77. It sets up fast and you may not get the grip on all the way before the glue sets up enough for a bond. There are other products advertised for the same purpose that you can use as well.

also wrong about both grips being 7/8" the handbars are 7/8ths but the throttle slide cant be 7/8ths if it fits over the handlebar itself

That is where the twist throttle info comes in. If you have two 7/8" grips you have quad grips aka thumb throttle grips for 7/8" bars.

Super 77 spray adhesive is 12-15 dollars a can.


The prouduct that is made for just for this.....grip glue is $3

but windex, wd-40 and hair spary will all work fine.

Nope not wrong. I did rubber chemical research for a long time. I do know what the parts are made of and why they fail. Even if it works for you it can still be wrong.

On the size thing- You are buying MOTORCYCLE grips. NOT ATV grips. The packaging is usually marked for either application. As I stated before 1" grip sets are for the Harleys. I also stated that one grip would be slightly larger than the other for the throttle side. Depending on the brand this difference may be negligable or obvious.

Good post for the grip glue trafficjamz. Yes the super 77 can be expensive but I use it for a LOT of different projects so my $15 is well spent. Its the BEST spray glue I have ever used and well worth the $$

Sorry to upset you guys on such a simple thing. Do you buy two sets of grips? One in 7/8" and one in 1"? I never did.
