200lb+ tuning!

Hey everyone! Im curious to see what everyone 200lb+ has for their engine setups.

I am 230lbs and and i have a custom frame and engine mount stretch of 18" total. Which adds easily 40lbs extra added. I have a af16 swap happening soon and i have a keli variator, a bunch of rollers, and 2k launch springs. Ive also been thinking about a 1k torque spring.

Let me know what u guyst think of that set up, what u would recomend to get, what size rollers you think i should try, and your heavy weight rider set up.

Thanks guys!

You should probably consider an aftermarket adjustable shock, the stock ones are notoriously squishy

Greetings:

Whenever you change the center rear pulley spring, the roller weight has to be recalculated. I would suggest taking whatever method is easiest to increase the engine RPM a little when you whack on throttle. The 1K spring will do that without changing weights - you may even have to INcrease a few grams to keep it from revving TOO high. On the other hand, keeping the Stock center spring and lightening up the rollers by a few grams will do the same with much less work - no Pulley disassembly.

What gears are you using? Trans set up is going to be different depending on your gear ratio.

The gear ratio is stock... What would you guys suggest for roller weights to start testing with?

Greetings;

Consider 8.5 grams each. Lower if you have an uprated center spring. Make small jumps - no more than 3-4 grams TOTAL - at at time. Otherwise you can overshoot the ideal.

Greetings:

Sorry, I misspoke above. If you went that stiff on the center spring, keep your stock weight load and see how it runs. You might even find that a few grams more are necessary.

A tach is helpful. All engines, but particularly 2-Smokes, produce the most power within a narrow range of RPM. Stock-ish engines and accoutrements (Carb, intake and pipe...) might be 7500-8500 RPM. You want whatever weights produce that RPM when you go WOT.

well, once i get the old variator off, ill put on the new one and ill see what happens, im going to start with three 7g and three 10g rollers... this is probably a newb question, but does it matter which way the rollers go in the variator? my guess is the side that covers up the metal inside the roller a little more should be facing the counterclockwise direction, right? :confused:

be sure to alternate the rollers when you put them in 7 10 7 10 7 10 etc

Are you using rollers or sliders?

7s and 10s is too far apart from each other. Try keep all the same number weights like all 7s or all 8s and if you have to mix numbers try to only go one number apart
