Looking for Scooter Mechanic in Michigan

So I've got a 94 Honda Elite 50 that has a motor in it that is/was supposed to be "all that and more - all top of the line parts - no expense spared" according to the person I bought it from. Well, turns out he had no carb for it so I bought one from eBay seller (guy out of Hawaii) that he recommended. Got it to run a little last year but was not great - really hard time getting it to start. I need someone more knowledgeable than I to sort it out - I just don't have the time to work on it (work and family always getting in the way of project completions!). I'm OK with spending some money to get it running. I need to get it fixed or I need to sell it (wife wants it either be running or be gone!). I'm in Holland, Michigan 49423 and I'm willing to drive 2-3 hours to take to a good mechanic or dealer - a guy in a garage is OK too and maybe preferred if he knows what he's doing and can fix this thing!

Any leads would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!!!!

i'm pretty sure TrafficJamz would be able to get it running. =) :thumbwink:
hopefully it won't be too much else to get back on the road, especially since you mentioned you got it running before
what kind of carb did you buy? just wondering.
i ask because if you upgraded your carb, you may have to upgrade your filter also.

oh and btw
welcome to the forums ! :hi:

I am anxious to see what has been done to this scooter.

I get to examine this scooter tomorrow.

It is supposed to be warm tomorrow ...56 degrees!

Scooter weather for sure.

Update when you find out what "all that and more - all top of the line parts - no expense spared" parts are on it.

All top of the line parts :eyeroll:

I was skeptical when I first read that too.

But guess what......this scooter does have very nice parts on it. :surprise:

Here it what I noticed right away.
24mm oko carb
CT black intake
Keli Variator
aftermarket clutch and bell.

This scooter has a stock pipe

It seems out of place with all the other aftermarket goodies on this thing.

I wonder if the stock pipe is an S or an SR.

The next thing I noticed on this scooter was the lack of an oil tank.

No big deal. I assume the PO must have went with premix.

Looking at the oil pump now... :nervous:

Hmmm thats not good.Image

I wonder how long that has been spinning around with no oil and leaking air :surprise:

I will have to plug that up properly later on.

Time to check out and see what I am really dealing with here.

Holly $hit you have got to be kidding me.

That looks like a polini bore

I like this scooter 1000% more now.

I hope the bore is not damaged from the open oil pump. That would be a shame.

I will do a compression test this afternoon.

Nice, but no cooling shroud means an overheated engine once it runs or maybe that's why it does not run now.

No, I took the shroud off to look at the jug.

It was in place :thumbwink:

I replaced the oil pump with a shiny new blue plug from VT cycles.

I noticed that there is a gasket between the case halves.

94-01 elites should not have a gasket. Honda bond only.

Hmm.... I see no leaks....so i will ignore that for now.

I took the stock pipe off to check for restrictions.......There are none. :thumbwink:

I can see the front side of the piston through the ex port....looks pretty good. No scratches...very smooth.

Next I will take the carb off and see what jets are in it.

I have never jetted a 72cc with a 24mm carb and a stock pipe. Any Idea on PJ and MJ sizes?

Next, I will preform a compression test, and report back.

Hmm, can you see additional base gaskets? Stroker maybe or stuffer?
