86 Spree only goes 26mph

I recently purchased a 1986 Spree that ran pretty decent. I changed the spark plug, cleaned the air filter and carb and it ran a little better. I then purchased a high performance CDI and coil. I still only go 27mph. Any ideas on what else I can do?
Thanks Bill

first thing you did wrong is purchased a high performance CDI and coil it dose nothing so keep the old ones becase you'll need then because the ones you just got don't last long...

Hmmmm....
Did you check the compression?
Drive belt?
Clutch friction shoes?

Planning on checking that stuff this week. I noticed the exhaust is restricted as well.

The good money says just swap the stock CDI and coil back onto the engine and that should cure the problem. Do nothing until you swap back and test it.

Why do you want me to put the old stuff back on? For the testing or in general?

the old stuff is better stuff you msay pick up 1or2 with it or not.. if your trying to pick up some speed do the pulley mod but your tack off will be slower..

YOU installed the new stuff and broke it. Take the crap off and you will fix it. Anytime you install something new and a problem arises, put it back the way it was, almost always fixes it. The odds of something else have gone wrong at the same time are astronomical. Basic Mechanic 101.

I don't think he's saying it got worse with the upgrades. Sounds to me he's just saying "in general" that is still only goes 27 even with the mods.
Go with the pully mod brother

Thanks Christian, that is correct. Nothing is broken currently. Some ppl don't know how to read I guess. Is there anything besides modding the pulley? What do guys use when they put a big bore kit on for ignition systems?
Thanks

Wow, you come here asking for help then insult people by saying they can't read? Haha, good luck pal.
Keep buying those performance parts from those Grifters on eBay.
EDIT: Obviously nothing is broken seeing as your spree doesn't go over 26... LOL

Sorry, I guess sarcasm doesn't go well on a blog. My apologies! I just want help, I'm new to the scooter world. I have worked on cars, atvs, etc. Is there anything else I can do?
