I am changing my rings, and the cylinder isnt scored, should I get the cylinder honed?

if the cylender is fine then there is no need to hone it out.

and then you would need bigger rings.

He said hone, not bore. Honing shouldn't change the diameter. You always hone with new rings.

WRONG.
honing will change the diameter of the cylender, if only by a fraction, and depending on how much you hone, you may infact have to change pistons. this is a common occurance in heavily siezed cylenders.
if the walls of the cylender are fine, and there are no flaws in it, then there is no need to hone it out when changing rings

don't do it if the walls are fine

ACTUALLY DOESNT DO MUCH MORE THAN REMOVING DEPOSITS AND PUTTING A FRESH SURFACE ON THE CYLINDER WALL, IF DONE WITH FINE STONES. HONING IS A GOOD IDEA WHEN INSTALLING NEW RINGS.
BE SURE TO WASH CYLINDER THOROUGHLY WITH SOLVENT AND RUN SLOWLY FOR A WHILE TO LET THE NEW RINGS SEAT IN TO THE NEW SURFACE.

I always lightly hone jugs when installing new rings. Also derust entire jug.
It takes the glaze off and gives the new rings a place to seat-in.
No failers to date, greg

you could do that with a green scrubber and solution. anytime you remove a layer from insde the cylender, even if it is only a tiny amount, you are changing the diameter.

yea it is still changing the diamitor

if you're thinking about doing a hone, but are vary of increasing the diameter, you should just wetsand the inside.
cross swatch the inside with 400grit wetsand paper (dip it in warm water before and while applying), this will revive the inside and help the new rings seat better. apply it evenly through out the cylinder.
I had this done after slightly glazing my 90cc after blowing a piston and it worked pretty good.

From my limited knowledge of rings and pistons, my understanding is that the honed surface is needed to hold oil to the bore during operation.

no, your rings and cylender walls will form together, just as they do with a new bore.

it will be fine, just put it back together, and brake the new rings in proprly
