Honda Spree and Elite 50 Forums

Ok. Some of you may have followed my thread from a little while back about a nasty 1987 SE50P. The splines on the crankshaft were worn off, so I couldn't get the driven gear on.

Anyway, I've found a local guy parting out his scoot, and has the bottom end of the engine available.

Is my thinking correct in that I'd only need gaskets for the cylinder and cylinder head and new rings to install? What are, or are there pitfalls? Will OEM rings fit? Should I just buy a "performance" kit off Ebay? I mean, if his part has been left outside or something and is all rusty it may be a no-go.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Hiya. I hope my 2 cents might help. My se50 had the same issue in reverse. The bottom end was fine but the top end was toast. I pulled the piston, head and jug from a junkyard motor I had. I got a jug and headgasket set and new rings from Honda installed said parts on my good bottom end and the puppy ran great!. My advice is to make sure your case gasket and both case bearings and oilpump o rings are good and you should be golden!
