I have a 93 elite sr50 and wondering on how to increase some speed out of it, currently it runs around 38 top speed but looking for more speed, have excellent low end take off just seems maybe it needs higher geared for more top end, any suggestions would help. Don't think its restricted as serial number is a af1603pd if that means anything

aftermarket variator and or a wider belt is the easyest way to catch a few more mph

Greetings:

Actually you can save a few bucks and put up a WTB ad for a used Ruckus variator. Here or on Total Ruckus forum. Conflicting accounts on whether it fits your SE/05 block straight up, but if not there's just a little shaving to be done around the starter housing webs. The larger diameter of the front pulley translates into a couple extra MPH if you have the power to exploit the taller "gearing". Also, a 90/90 rear tire increases your distance-per-tire-rotation for another fractional gain in top speed.

Ultimately though, taller "gearing" won't necessarily make you faster unless you have more power or better aerodynamics. Preferably both. This is why Experienced Forum Members always ride downwind. Some of us wearing Danskins.

Donning the Lycra for speed? All in the interest of Science, of course.
But y'know, anybody Boast-posting a Top Speed number probably wasn't running upwind against a gale, right? Bonneville requires a 2-way average for the same reason. It ain't Official until you average the upwind/downwind runs on the Salt.
