OK, got all the parts together i needed. gonna try to get this thing running today. 1986 Aero NB50. question: i cant get the oil pump to work. tried priming it with syringe per manual. that isnt working either. i got oil TO the pump but cant get any to go through it. tried it while turning motor over with throttle open......nothing.
has anyone disconnected the pump and just mix fuel the old fashioned way?
i'd have no problem doing this.....
thoughts?
thanks

Lots of people, me included, ditch the oil pump and run premix.

I like that idea best. what mixture you use ???
did you just unhook the lines to the pump, or remove it completely?
will the pump gear get trashed without oil running through it?

The oil pump pumps such a small amount of oil that at cranking speed it will never clear out the air. Just put 32 to 1 premix in the tank and top off the oil tank and run the scooter. If the level in the oil tank drops the pump is pumping and you are golden (it has worked for me 3 times now). FYI, IMO going to premix is stupid unless you are BBKing and then I think a 70 to 1 mix in the tank would be wiser than going 32 to 1 and no oil pump. Premixing is a PIA and messy and damned easy to under or over oil. There is a reason oil injection came about and it was because of the mess and screw ups made while premixing.

Bear,
so by your previous post.........after i run that initial tank of premix, and verify pump is working.........then just use straight gas for next tank???

You could, but I have never trusted it to less than 3 tanks, but I don't ever come close to running a tank dry.

Too rich? No. Fouling the plug, maybe. All it'll do is chuff a bit of smoke while trying to run both premixed and pump fed oil. The sooner the fuel tank is purged of the premix, the better (as long as the oil pump is functioning correctly) Lots of debate about what is the 'good oil' for your 2 stroke, don't use cheap stuff.

Do like bear said, 1-3 tanks and check the oil level and see if pump is working. When you add oil to the fuel you are reducing the amount of gas getting to the cylinder and the gas is what does the cooling not the oil.
