Upgrade Opinons in a nutshell

Post by silentheaven »

So as I lurk around the forums I see a few different threads about jetting, BB size, exhaust, Gears, Contra spring size, clutch spring size, Variators, variator weights, etc. etc. I was thinking that we can sum everything up in one post to help point the newbs in the right direction with a good starting point. Some of the things I get confused over is size of carb compared to jet size exp. bigger carb smaller jet? Also, heavy rider (250+), heavy contra spring or lighter? Higher RPMs=lighter variator weights? Gears.... tall, short, BB, fat/skinny riders, top speed?

Ok so I think you guys get it now lets see what we can come up with. I do realize this is all really based on opinions and will probably start a few * matches, so let try to stay away from that. LetÔÇÖs get facts, set-ups, and tried&true know differences.

Thanks for the info and I will update and put the info on this post as it comes in!

I think it's a good idea but the variables are endless.
Maybe you could figure something out that would make this work.
2001 Honda Elite
1995 Yamaha Jog
1994 Yamaha Axis

I can't believe
that cop put me
in the backseat
when I clearly
called shotgun.

You gotta give it some time for replies too, I'm sure others are out blowing things up.

Yea, that is what I am trying not to do.

OK let me try to start a guideline of what I am asking. I have based this on the AF16 motor and a BBK.

Variator: Top end speed vs. Take off
Stock AF16 = ?
Stock Ruckus = ?
Polini = ?
etc. = ?

Variator weights: Depends on size of cc, clutch, and variator
Heavy = lower RPMs but needed for BBKs
Lighter = higher RPMs for more response/ stock

Contra springs: Bigger riders vs. lighter riders
1000 = ?
1500 = ?
2000 = ?

Clutch springs(the 3 small ones): How high the RPMs are on take off
1000 = ?
1500 = ?
2000 = ?

Big bore size vs Carb size: This would be more of a general idea
Stock 50cc = Stock carb 16mm?
72cc = 24mm? 28mm?
80cc = 24mm? 28mm? 30mm?

Carb size vs Jet size on a BB: also very subjective but needed just as a guideline
24mm = main/pilot
26mm = main/pilot
28mm = main/pilot

Gears: I know absolutely nothing about this subject. I have seen that is all depends on weight of rider, BB size, and goals.
Gear size? + heavy rider (250+) + more top end
Gear size?+ heavy rider (250+) + faster acceleration
Gear size?+ light rider (>249) + more top end
Gear size? + light rider (>249) + faster acceleration

Pre Mix ratio: More as a poll of what is used, good/bad, and type of oil used
50:1
36:1
etc.

Please feel free to add in your set up and info!!! Everything added will be helpful to someone either good or bad

Its either derestricted stock or a quality bbk, both are reliable but a persons weight is a factor and there is a science to to it just don't get addicted to speed like i did :smile:
some people dream of speed, i own your dreams!
