my 87 honda elite 50cc is sick.
earlier i was riding to the store to get some milk for da baby, and it just started going really slow but sounded like it was going fast then everytime i tried to increase the throttle it would bog down when going down hill i could get to about 35mph but on flat land it would only go about 15 and uphill was a slow crawl. i was wondering if anybody might know what the problem could be. please let me know if you need anymore info to help diagnose whats going on with my baby (my moped)

that sounds very logical, is there an easy test to know for sure that it is the belt slipping and if so is there an easy fix? if not whats the cheapest fix?
i am somewhat decent with tools and mechanics but im no machinist, so if you could break things down so i can understand id be greatly appreciative.
thank you for your help.

also i was reading another post, something about using a dremel to grind something out to increase speed, i think. is there any chance someone here could explain that to me in fewer words than the wiki artical and also i feel dumb saying this but i really couldnt figure out what to do using the wiki artical, im not the brightest bulb in the tanning bed so maybe somebody could make it a bit easier to understand for me cause id like to do it but im nervous

Pull the cover, if the belt is slipping there will be belt dust and fuzz everywhere.

Measure the belt width. Get the service manual from Tech Docs and find the procedure and width spec. Replace if needed.

Based on your expressed skill level, I'd leave the dremel alone. You'll do more harm than good.
Best mod for that scooter is changing out the ramp plate. That's good for a few MPH and only runs ~$40. That's the only mod I did on the last 1987 I built.

i got the ramp plate already just been waiting till i had to fix something before i opened the moped up cause im nervous ill mess something up, but seeing the belt is slipping now i got a reason, and also about the whole dremel thing, i bought another identical piece to use the dremel on so that way if i screw something up its no big deal just $8 down the toilet and i can throw the original back on if i do screw up

i know me and how awesome of a mechanic i can be so i ordered the extra just to be safe. I just wish it wasnt raining, almost have my minibike ready for the mean streets of southern illinois but its a rainy day here

so i cant use the dremel or ride anything, what a crap day

Seriously. Put the * dremel away; you don't know what you're doing.
If you insist on modifying your scooter like that, get a shotgun and just unload 10-20 rounds into it. You'll achieve the same result, faster, and probably have more fun doing it.

A new variator and belt should get you into the low 40's on that scooter easily. How much more are you looking for?

I just saw in another post that you are planning to put on an unrestricted exhaust - do you have the SE50P? If so, have you done the other basics to de-restrict?
