Weirdest thing happened...

Some of you may know that I've recently completed the assembly of my bike. I meant to go on a quick maiden voyage and ran out of gas as soon as I cranked it

So my bros offered to bring back some gas. It's good I ran out of gas, cause it was 87 octane that was potentially sitting in there since December. My bros brought back 94 (cause he didn't know what I needed), so I fill up with that.

Go for it again and started going around the block. But it wouldn't go past 35 km/h. Thought maybe I'd have to adjust the carb for the different gas, but no luck.

Took half the air box off to spray carb clean in. Revved up great with no filter element, so I went for a quick pass up and down the street and got upto 55 km/h in no time! So I figured the filter might be clogged, which is possible cause it looked like the original.

When to a local bike shop and got another filter made of the same stuff, but just bigger. I don't think I'll ever find a replacement for a Pal, so I just cut it down to size.

Popped that in, and no luck, still 35 at the most, and it would struggle at that speed.

Took half the air box off and the intake hole on the outer half was clogged. So I cleaned it out and while I was at it, drilled a bigger hole and eliminated some of the walls and restrictions as well. With that setup, even with tunning, I was able to get up to, what looked like 42 on the dial.

Took it off again, and starred at it for a bit :P There's the pipe that comes from the carb and into the box, and in the box, there's a snorkel that goes from that, bends 90* and gets pressed up against the filter. Took a gamble, and cut it off.

The gamble paid off! With a new filter, I was able to get up to 50 - 55, no problem! No as quickly as without the filter, but those speeds are now acheived!

50-55km/h is roughly 30-32 MPH. Cheers

Might try a pod filter on that bike. $20 experiment that could pay off. Plan on an upjet though.

Don't wait too long, you can lean out and burn a piston.

Heres the formula for km to mph conversions. There is 1.6 miles in a kilometer so if you have km and you need mph you just divide by 1.6. For instance if you are going 100 km/ph and you need mph you just go 100/1.6 which equals 62.5 mph. Or you multiply to go from mph to km/ph. Which in this case if you are going 62 mph the formula would be 62 mph * 1.6 which equals 99.2 km/ph...remember this formula is for approximate values only.
