Hello all,

I just picked up a 1990 SA50 for next to nothing that had a circlip pop out. I've spent quite a few hours on here already looking up info.....great site!

Looking forward to hanging out here and getting this little buzzbomb running sooner than later.

Rob

Thanks guys......

I've ordered a Malossi kit from redeft and been tinkering on it in the evenings. Got some wires soldered up and the electric start now works. Well, it cranks....we'll leave the running part until later lol

I thought turning the back wheel seemed a bit rough, so I dug into the final drive. Sure enough, hardly any oil and one bearing in the housing is roasted for sure. Guess I'll be replacing those and the seals. The crank is wobbly too....so since I'm in there, might as well split the case.

Mechanically it should be in tiptop shape when I'm done. Visually.....I'm not touching the 50 lbs of undercoat the previous guy painted it with lol.

Time to surf the net for bearings.......

Don't skimp, bearings are worth the extra money.

Just placed an order with powersportsplus. All the bearings and seals and a belt for good measure.
Sooooo tempted to buy body panels, can't believe they are available.

The sa50 body was the same '88-01 in the USA. So your bike may be a '90 but the guys with '01 models still need parts. When you get into some engine parts, yours will be NLA.

Got a couple final drive bearings out and cleaned the inside of the case. Painted and mounted a cargo box off an old electric scooter I dismantled. Otherwise, just waiting for the postman.

Found some like new Duro 3.50 tires. Granted, I have new 3.00's on both ends of my scoot, but getting some gear back would be nice.

I know the tires would be a tight fit.....how much grinding would be in store for me? I've read everyone is partial to 90/90's. I wouldn't even be considering tires otherwise, but the price is right and local.

Got it running Thursday night! I did have to weld up the crank on one side and grind it down (bearing spun)

Heat cycled it a couple times, and took it out for a spin. Good thing I live in the country, lots of backwoods to scoot around on. It starts instantly, runs great, throttle is responsive.....I'm digging it.

Now I also picked up a Kymco 4 stroke with 600kms on it. Pretty much mint.

I'm hooked!

Thanks.

It still runs great. Smooth right up to 65 kph. With the larger then factory tires, the speedo is actually dead on now (verified with 2 gps units). The acceleration is outstanding.....but the smooth ride of the Kymco has me riding that one more.
