I took the intake off of my 84' honda spree and need to replace the gaskets. They are gooey.
I've cleaned the bottom of the intake valve and the top of the brown reed thing. I have a gasket that goes under the reed but need one to go between the reed and intake. Anyone know where I can get one?
They seem to be obsolete on cycle websites.
Also, how do I get that brown reed cage up? It seems stuck, I don't want to force it/break it.
Honda dealers may or may not be able to order the gaskets. If not a clever X-Acto Knife operator can fab a gasket with paper available at any autoparts store.
You're right to be concerned about the brown plastic. It is VERY brittle and will crack with any force applied. Work around with a razor, millimeter by millimeter and don't give in the the temptation to tap in a screwdriver as a wedge.
Be sure to clean the mating surfaces impeccably - eat off it - clean. A liberal slathering of Hi-Temp grease - pick some up if you opt for roll-your-own - on the gasket gives you a chance at a clean removal next time.

Most of my money is spent on scooterparts. The rest is just wasted.
