Hi all...
86 Aero 50... stock AF05E. Leo Vince SP3, Ruckus Variator w/ brand new 5.7? gram weights, unknown weight center spring (White spring for a Ruckus)
I just swapped to the Ruck vario to address a problem I had with my DDX (The center sleeve was loose in the variator)... everything seems great except for a slow takeoff from about 0-5 mph.
I have tried the following:
Went from 6.2 Gram weights to 5.7... noticed a tiny bit faster take off, but still unreasonably sluggish.
Swapped the aftermarket center spring back to a stock one (noticed lower mid-acceleration RPM), went back to the white spring.
The bike runs in the low-mid 40's top speed... RPM is around 8300 topped out. Most of my acceleration is around 7800 RPM, climbing hills very nicely at 7400 RPM.
At takeoff, I notice the following...
I no longer have the quick rev before the bike starts to move... Its almost as if the clutch is already disengaged. (Obviously its not since I can idle) It does appear that the Ruckus Variator keeps belt higher up on the front sheaves, but its hard to guage.
0-5 MPH I see about 2300 RPM when I start to move.... once it creeps up to around 4000 RPM, the bike takes off and accelerates smoothly past 40.
Clutch springs? Recommendations?

I have almost the same set up only different pipe and have been noticing the same thing. I was also thinking about going with 2k springs.
Pauly what pulley need to be shimmed and how?

Re: Slow takeoff recommendations.
Greetings:
I think he said the Front pulley. The space between the sheaves is critical. Evidently a stock Ruck vario running a stock pulley boss - the thick cylinder between the ramp plate and the crank shoulder - makes it pinch a little closer. This means that the belt isn't riding as close to center as it should, making for a "second-Gear" start. On the SE05, find a collection of 12mm (I think...) washers in different thicknesses. Adding one to the assembly increases the space between the sheaves and so the belt can ride down closer to center. Too much and it'll just slip. Adjustment of as little as .5mm can make a big difference. Decrease the shim thickness as the belt wears.

Re: Slow takeoff recommendations.
Thank you all.
I placed a spark plug washer in between the boss and the outer sheave and it picked up quite a bit. It's still not perfectly where I want it, but it is rideable once again. (it was dangerously slow pulling into moving traffic before.)
I'm hesitant to try adding anything thicker just because the splines are so short on the crank, I may order a set of 1k clutch springs to see if that gives me just a bit more. If it doesn't feel good with those, I can certainly live with how it is riding now.

Re: Slow takeoff recommendations.
Did you install the three grabber springs that come with the SP3? Those are what holds the clutch back until the engine is closer to the new power band.
