noobie here please help with 94 elite S

Post by sc94elite »

Hello forum noobie here just picked up this 94 elite at a local auction a few weeks back. it's in pretty rough shape. decided to try and get it running. it has and AF16E normal for this year after researching. I brought it home and it wouldn't start. took a compression reading and the compression was low. so i took the top end apart and just as i thought it was scored whoever had it before ran it without an airbox. Anyway i found a 50mm BBK online ordered it and installed it. it's running good now. My problem is the top end is poor. almost wide open it only does 25 mph (trying to take it easy i got to break it in) so today i played around with the variator changed the weights that had little effect. it has great take off but no top end real fast to about 20 mph then nothing. this is the first 2 stroke i've owned i had a few 4 stroke china scoots before if someone could help it would be great appreciated

Greetings:

More info on your setup would help.

Did you check compression on your 50mm when you installed it?
What intake, carb, pipe?

If it's signing off after good 0-20 performance, I take it that it won't rev out? Carb, carb jetting, pipe have more to do with this than anything you're doing in the vario. It shuod be good for 40 at least if there's a belt under that cover.

Greetings:

Guessing you don't have a temperature gauge, I suggest you remove the spark plug and examine its color. The Stock carb, even with a #100 jet, has a tiny pilot circuit even for 49cc. Now you have almost twice that. Also even a drilled-out, derestricted pipe puts a choke-hold on higher RPM operation when you bore to 82 or 85ccs. Your power at higher RPM will be low for that reason.

However even so choked-down, speed should at least match Stock value. There are lots of places to go wrong in assembly. The easiest way to know if something's leaking or not sealing well is to start with a very clean block. Work with great care for the critical things. 100PSI does indeed sound low; low enough to suspect something wasn't matched or assembled correctly.

Without having a flashlight on the actual metal, it's hard to help online.

Thanks wheelman for the reply guess at this point i should disassemble and see what's happening. the 100 jet was sold with the kit i bought so figured it was substantial. i'll examine the plug and go from there. thanks for the help. i'll update on what happens. but the best way to explain the issue it's like driving a manual vehicle 45 mph in second gear it feels like it needs another gear. The engine labors but it doesn't have speed.

What ramp plate are you using? Pull the plug and check color. A 100 is a bit big with a stock pipe on

Is the ramp your using completely flat? Also is the cover that goes over the ramp plate still on? It had 3 small screws holding it

Af18-28 parts will work on your motor. Post a pic of the ramp plate you have. Also mark the face of the pulley with a sharpie to see how high the belt is riding.
