Where do hose lines run off of carburator for 2001 Elite?

Hey Guys,

I really need some help reassembling my 2001 Honda Elite carburator hoses.

I have a 1988 Elite. I took the carburator apart, put new gaskets in, cleaned and put back together with no problem. It runs great..does 35 mph easily.

I bought this 2001 Elite which was only topping at 22 mph. Thought I should clean and re-gasket it.
While I was doing this I put in a fuel shut-off line.

When I put it back together, it was total chaos. It started..but still only ran about 22-24 mph. In addition, it has now started to leak gas like a sieve from the hose connected to the bottom port.
I have screwed up royally on something!!!

Would someone please look at the pics and tell me what hoses I have hooked up wrong?

Also, I have a bottom vent without a hose hooked to it!! Ugh. My elderly mind is making me crazy because I forget stuff. Usually I take pics BEFORE, and DURING the time I disassemble something so I can put it back together right. This has been a hard lesson to learn on this one.

Thanks for your help!

Here is a pic of the lower left side vent that has no hose attached.

Ok, here is the final pic. This is the vent from the carb bowl meant for overflow, I believe.

I think it had a very short hose connected to the vent that was not connected to anything, just open to the air.

The final pic is your overflow line, in stock form there is a section of hose running to the gearcase where the hose ends, therefore if fuel runs out it doesn't get on the tire or exhaust. The other pipe at the bottom of the carb bowl is the float drain, fuel runs out of here when you open the screw on the float bowl, just a convenience so fuel doesn't pour over your motor when you drain the carb, both of these lines are open on the ends. Sounds like maybe you left the float drain open so you are leaking gas and the float chamber can't fill which prevents you from running at speed. Good luck!

Goped,

Thanks for the suggestions. I will look again at the float bowl screw, which is suppose to be turned all the way in.
I will put a hose on the vent from the overflow line. This is where all the gas is leaking out at a huge and rapid rate.

Hopefully this will help with my issues.

ANYBODY ELSE WITH ANY SUGGESTIONS......PLEASE COMMENT!!!
