What adjustments should I check for a fouling plug on 1988 elite 50? Have adjusted air screw per manual, but will only run a short time before stalling. Plug is new but wet each time I check it. Thanks.

Thanks trafficjam.......is that the very small diameter circuit that requires a carb removal and soak? I think I have done this before?

Make sure that the float and needle valve are functioning properly. And make sure the air filter s clean and not over oiled. Also check for a plugged up exhaust. You are looking for things that would cause it to run rich.

Well I checked air filter, exhaust path, replaced carb, and plug still fouled after startup, and was wet. So I changed to a new plug and it ran great. Noticed that previous plug had larger gap, so cleaned and re-gapped to .65mm. Old plug runs fine and is not wet. Never would guess that the plug gap would impact firing temp that much. My Dad always said look for something simple. I'm a slow learner at 62.

Plug gap means a lot in a spree, there is a serviceable range in the manual, but it has been found that the lower end of the serviceable range works best. Usually .025" glad you got it on the mend, and yes always look for the most simple first and usually that's where the problem lies.

You might also check to make sure the petcock is not getting fuel into the vacuum side of the valve. This will over fuel the engine and subsequently the plug will be wet.
