is my bystarter in correctly?

Post by azndude3141 »

my motor was running really good for 3 minutes, and then it ran like crap. so i unplugged the bystarter and it runs good now continously. im not sure if i put the bystarter back correctly when i put it back on the carb because the little clip that has 2 screws bends allitle when i tighten the bystarter in all the way and im not sure if it is supposed to bend. i added a picture

The photo is a bit fuzzy so it is hard to tell exactly. If the hold down was not tipped up before and is now after reinstall then something is wrong. My guess is you did not seat the bystarter down all the way. Maybe the O ring is catching or maybe the little brass cylinder is not seated properly. If it ran bad before and now suddenly runs well on start up simply by reinstalling it could be because your bystarter is not pushed in all the way now. Have you ridden the back after you reinstalled the bystarter? Because if the bystarter is not all the way in it may run too rich because the bystarter may continue to send fuel even after warm up if not all the way down. If you reinstall it and it runs bad again at start up consider unscrewing the body of the bystarter a little. This causes the needle assembly to be a little retracted which will adjust the enrichment at start up.

Yeah that's not seated properly, the retainer should be flat. Might have to pull it and put it back in. Its easy to get in not all the way.
