Hello All, I have a retiree friend who wants a little more speed maybe 5-8 mph out of his 02 Yamaha Vino 4 stroke. Any quick tips to increase the takeoff without becoming too raucous?
Thanks, Ted

My mistake, the Vino is a 2 cycle. I have read about removing a washer between the variator clutch and grinding out the exhaust pipe restrictor. I was cautioned however that the washer removal may make the belt too tight to start. I also heard the vino has the same motor as the zuma, and a friend with one of the last 2 stroke zumas mentioned grinding a cam on the throttle so the plunger lifts fully. Sound correct?

The motor is basically the same, some differences. Removing the washer helps. A chamber pipe will liven it up.

I had a vino a while back. Removing the spacer in the front pulley helped a little (the washer was already removed from exhaust). The stock muffler is pretty restrictive, so pretty much anything aftermarket should give improvement.
Also replacing the stock 80/90's with 3.00" size tires really helps handling and ride quality, and should give a little upgear w/ no real loss of accel if you adjust the pulley weights down.
