Hi,
I am going to attempt to remove my carb on my 86 spree.
Not sure how the nut on top is removed, and the cable detached.
Would like suggestion from someone who has done it before, so I don't break something

Thanks

You'll get a lot of help on this one. The nut on top will come off pretty easily, sometimes only hand tight. You can take the cable, the slide and spring out all at once. just leave it on the cable unlesss you need to clean it. There are two bolts that come from the back side, and you will need to disconnect the fuel inlet, and best to remove the two wires on the by-starter and take the whole thing to the bench. You will need to remove the drain hose, or pull it out still on carb.

here's the manual link. http://www.hondaspree.net/other/Spree_NQ50_84-87_1.pdf

Thanks for the reply.

I looked at the manual, and it does not clearly show the removal of the cable.
Do I just unscrew the top and pull it out?
The top nut seems loose, but does not unscrew easily.
Is it attached to the slide inside somehow.?

Thanks

Greetings:

Pulling the carb top off the cable casing is a delicate art. For some reason, Honda-san fitted the cable and carb top with a tiny groove, into which an even tinier spring steel split ring traps the two together. Look closely at the carb top. You'll see an even TINIER little slot where you can slip a mechanic's pick. Jiggle, jiggle, pry, pry and see if you can pull the cable end out of the cap. One of mine pulled off with a quick tug. Another took an hour of cussing and prying. I gave up on a third one and used a cutting wheel to split the carb top. (I really, REALLY wanted that cable...). Don't replace the split ring once you get it out and save the headache.

Greetings:

Lots of cussing involved to take the carb cap off the cable, but the advice to just pull the slide and its needle out with the cap and cable was correct. The slide hooks to the cable end with a keyhole and unhooks easily if you compress the spring with your fingers.
