1984 Honda Spree Needs More Speed

I have an 84 Honda spree that tops off at about 27 mph. Most roads here have speed limits of 35 so I'd like to speed it up a little. I'm not trying to spend hundreds on an expensive mod or swap the engine, I'm just trying to find small things I can do to get just a little more speed. I have searched the web and couldn't find anything trustworthy enough to try so I figured what better place to ask than hondaspree.net.

I'm just trying to get a few mph faster, I'd be happy if my spree went 30-35

Its can be hard to get 35 put of a stock 84 spree. They start out only going 28 as you already know

porting the intake and and sb50 reeds or 86/87 reeds help with flow and then you can get an AX24 belt, its wider than stock which helps the gear ratio on the top end. New belt is a good plan anyway as they get worn and change the gear ratio and you loose top end. The AX24 will restore the lost top end and give a little more. You can also mod the drive pulley for more top end as well. But as swimming free stated you have a trade off with all the gearing mods, slower low end takeoff. If your spree has a ton of miles on it and if it hasn't been done yet, a good mod and maintainance thing to do is order a new piston and rings from our man Tazland001 here on the board. It is a domed piston where the stock 84 is dished. That will help the bottom end some as well you should hone the cylinder when you install the new piston as a old shiny bore is death to low end tourqe. Also make sure to replace the air filter with a new pre oiled one if you don't know how old the filter is. And make sure the airbox lid is on properly and has a gasket.

Ax24 is the part number, most industrial supply shops will know what you are talking about. Pretty easy to come by. I can get em for 8$ now. The one I bought a year ago was 20$ sucks to find em cheaper when ya don't really need em
